What are Atomic Swaps?

Atomic Swaps are P2P solution that allows the exchange of cryptocurrencies on separate blockchains without the need for a 3rd party intermediary.

To put it simply: Beam users can swap their Beam for 2nd type of cryptocurrency with other Beam users without needing to rely on an exchange!

Let's say Alice wants to swap her 5 Beam coins for 200 of Bob's Dogecoin. Normally that would require Alice going to an exchange to convert her Beam to then buy Bobs Dogecoins which would mean more fees for both Alice and Bob. Because both Alice and Bob use Beam, they can swap their crypto directly to each other, atomically.
